Starlite Is a Recognized Firewise USA Community !

The Firewise USA program, developed by the National Fire Protection Association, provides simple, effective steps to help communities reduce the risk of destruction from wildfire. Your neighbors, with the help of CALFIRE and Firewise USA, have formed Starlite Firewise. In June, 2025 we were officially recognized by Firewise USA.  (Download the certificate below !)   Would you like to join us in making Starlite a safer community? What Does the Firewise USA Recognition Mean for Starlite ?

  • Recognition as a Firewise USA Community means that the people living in Starlite have recognized their vulnerability to wildfires, and taken smart, sustained action to lower their risk. It means we have recognized our responsibility for protecting our homes, and those of our neighbors.
  • The measures presented by the Firewise USA program will, with sustained application, reduce the number of homes damaged or destroyed by fire, whether that fire originates on the Inyo National Forest, on Highway 168, or in one of our homes.
  • California has enacted "Safer from Wildfires" regulations that require insurance companies to recognize Firewise USA designated communities by providing discounts to property owners in those communities.  Starlite homeowners can download the recognition Certificate, take it to their insurance provider, and receive a discount! The discount for one of our neighbors was $400!

How Did We Become a Designated Firewise USA Community ?

A work group of  Starlite neighbors completed all the steps to gain recognition by Firewise USA through the following steps:

  1. CalFire completed a Community Wildfire Risk Assessment (CWRA) in January 2025.
  2. We held educational and vegetation removal events (Dumpster Days) in Nov. 2024 and May 2025.
  3. We have completed an Action Plan for 2026, 2027, and 2028.
  4. Collectively, we reported enough investment (both hours worked and money spent) to meet the Firewise USA requirements for a community our size.

How Do We Maintain Recognition ?

  1. Hold educational and vegetation removal events every  year.
  2. Report all the Firewise work we do. If you haven't yet reported your work, that's OK.  But going forward, MORE people need to report their work. It's easy:
